Turkish tourism 'benefits from wet UK summer'

19.09.2007

Turkey's tourist trade has directly benefited from this year's wet summer in the UK, according to a travel firm.

Humberside Airport Travel said that during July, it saw a rush of people purchasing last-minute foreign holidays because of persistent bad weather in Britain.

The firm stated that Turkey was the most popular destination among people in the Humberside region, which was among those affected by major floods.

Meanwhile, other people were said to have gone to other sunny destinations, including Cyprus and Majorca.

Due to the surge of people booking last-minute holidays, the local airport also saw an increase in business.

Rob Goldsmith, managing director of Humberside Airport, said: "It has been a busy few months and we hope that the trend will continue."

Recently, Select Property said that the increased popularity of Turkey among holidaymakers was boosting the number of opportunities for overseas property buyers, as areas such as Gulluk were being substantially redeveloped.
