Investors turn towards Eastern Europe

19 October 2007

Overseas property investors are increasingly turning towards eastern European markets, according to an expert.

David Lewis of Hodge Insurance Brokers said that since returns in the more established countries were showing signs of stablising, people were opting for emerging, fast-growing alternatives.

Speaking to the Western Mail, he stated that eastern European countries were becoming increasingly popular because they offered above-average returns.

He commented: "Developing sectors are seen as the rising stars of property investment, where returns can be optimised for both developers and property investors alike."

Mr Lewis added that Turkey was also attracting "keen interest" from speculators, despite it not yet being a member of the European Union.

Prospective investors were also told to consider the potential costs and benefits of each country and to take professional advice before committing to a purchase.
