Turkish government aims to protect land

New restrictions on building property in Turkey have been proposed by the country's government.
The ministry of forestry and agriculture is aiming to restrict the current rate of construction in order to preserve the country's natural character.
A white paper from the government department has been written to include many of Turkey's major tourist areas and investment hotspots, such as the resorts along the Mediterranean coast.
Officials are proposing the legislation in response to concerns that large parts of land could be swallowed up by unrestricted building.
While the government is actively encouraging tourism, the plans have been suggested in order to control its growth, allowing areas such as cities to avoid becoming overdeveloped.
The move could also help protect rural areas, green spaces and historical sites, allowing the country to continue to appeal to holidaymakers and investors for many years to come.
