Rental investors should look abroad

10 October 2007

Prospective investors in rental accommodation have been advised to purchase in a foreign property market.

UK newspaper the Financial Times said that factors such as high property prices and mortgage rates in the UK had deterred many from investing in the domestic buy-to-let market, leading many to consider other countries as an alternative.

The publication highlighted several emerging markets in Europe as potential opportunities for investors.

For example, Turkey was said to be a good option because property prices had risen by more than a third in the last three years, meaning that buyers could get high returns on their investment.

In addition, countries in Eastern Europe and the Baltics were described as "enticing" markets, as property prices could be about 25% of those in the UK.
