Airline announces new flights to holiday hotspots

15 November 2007

New flights to popular European tourist destinations are to be introduced next year, it has been confirmed.

Thomas Cook Holidays said it would begin operating additional services to countries such as Spain, Portugal and Turkey ahead of the summer holiday season in 2008.

The extra flights will depart from Leeds Bradford Airport, which means that access to the European mainland will be improved for people in the West Yorkshire region.

According to the airline, the services are being introduced in response to strong demand from people in the area.

This suggests that Spain, Portugal and Turkey could benefit from increased visitor numbers next year, potentially boosting their appeal among overseas property investors as a result.

James Burrows, Thomas Cook's aviation director, commented: "We recognise the potential for growth at Leeds Bradford Airport and by having a based aircraft we can meet the increased demand of the people in the region."

This comes after the Co-operative Group predicted that 3.3 million Britons would take a foreign holiday this Christmas.
