Turkish tourism set for significant growth
29 January 2010
Holidays in Turkey are set to prove a more popular option over the coming years, according to a new study.
Global research firm RNCOS released a report predicting that tourist arrivals in the country will exceed 33 million by 2012.
A number of emerging trends are expected to contribute to the growth, including the rising popularity of cultural breaks, yachting, golf holidays and health tourism.
The expansion of Turkey's tourism sector is set to get underway this year, with RNCOS predicting an 'inevitable recovery' following the negative impacts of the economic downturn last year.
Germany, the UK and Russia have traditionally dominated the country's inbound travel market - accounting for 36% of tourist arrivals in 2008 - and this trend is expected to continue in the coming years.
