Istanbul celebrates "European Capital of Culture" title

Istanbul is celebrating the "European Capital of Culture 2010" title with a series of events in various locations.
The celebrations began Saturday with an official ceremony at the Halic (Golden Horn) Congress Center attended by Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and ministers from 20 countries. Audio-visual shows, D.J. performances, concerts will be held within the scope of celebrations all over Istanbul.
Worldwide renown French fireworks and visual effects company, Group F will stage a must see fireworks and audio-visual show in both European and Asian sides of Istanbul. They will stage the "Fire Theatre" in Taksim and the "Balloon Theatre" in Kadikoy. Turkish pop star Tarkan will give a concert in Taksim square while Nil Karaibrahimgil will give a concert in Beylikduzu, Mercandede in Sultanahmet and rock band Mor ve Otesi in Kadikoy. Halic Congress Center will host a stage performance titled "Istanbul Magic" with 303 performers. Many museums and places including Sakip Sabanci Museum, Asiyan Museum, Sadberk Hanim Museum and Yerebatan Cistern Museum, and Dolmabahce place will be open to visitors till midnight.
