Antalya attracting yacht-building sector to free zone

The Antalya Free Zone is attracting the yacht-building sector, which is seeking to export its vessels abroad, as eight firms in 2009 have made investments in yacht production in the region.
Zeki Gurses, the president of the Antalya Free Zone (ASBAS), speaking to the Cihan news agency, revealed that out of the 10 firms that obtained licenses to invest in the zone in 2009, eight would focus on building yachts, and that 99% of the available space in the zone had been allocated.
Gurses added that ASBAS was becoming specialized in yacht production and that it had placed itself in the top five global yacht producers. According to Gurses, shipbuilders are increasingly moving operations from Tuzla in Istanbul, which hosts many shipbuilding yards for both commercial ships and luxury yachts, to Antalya.
