Istanbul voted best business destination
03 February 2010
Istanbul, Turkey's largest metropolitan city, was selected 'The Best International Business City' of the world for the year 2009 by the readers of the U.S.-based Global Traveler, daily Hurriyet reports.
Nearly 26,000 readers of the travel magazine voted for the world's best airlines, hotels and travel destinations. Rome was runner up in the same category, Sydney came in third.
"I am proud to see Istanbul getting such an award", Nihan Bekar, the director of the Turkish Culture and Tourist Office in New York, told Anatolia news agency. Recalling that Istanbul hosted many important congresses last year, including an International Monetary Fund-World Bank meeting and the World Water Forum, Bekar said the city hosted nearly 43,000 people for those events.
"Currently Istanbul ranks 15th in a list of the world's congress centres compiled by the International Congress and Convention Association", added Bekar.
