Increasing number of Arab heading to Turkey
30 September 2008
The number of Arab tourists heading to Turkey is growing, it has been claimed. According to a report in the Turkish Daily News, tourist professionals in the country are urging the government to take advantage of this trend and do more to attract such visitors.
The paper asserts that the Turkish Hotels Federation is campaigning for a greater number of flights into the nation, while the Tourism Writers and Journalists Association said that there needs to be more preparation for the next big holiday season.
Figures cited by the publication show that nearly 918,000 Arab tourists went to Turkey last year, up from 752,000 in 2006 and 753,000 in 2005.
It is predicted that this number will be even larger this year, with 630,000 heading to Turkey on holiday between January and July.
