Turkey set for tourism boom in 2009
07 November 2008
According to a tourism expert, Turkey may see a large increase in the number of visitors next year.
Contracts managing for Swedish tour operator Kuoni Adnan Gunes has said that the economic crisis could spell good news for Turkey's tourism industry, as it is one of the most affordable tourist destinations.
Speaking to the Turkish Daily News, he said that with the right investment in resorts such as Cesme, Foca and Gumuldur, the country could reap the benefits of increased visitors.
He added: "Tourists will now go to inexpensive countries. Turkish tourism will experience a boom."
Mr Gunes stated that winter tourism in the Canary Island, Miami and the ski resorts had virtually stopped but Turkish resorts such as Antalya, Alanya and Marmaris had enjoyed healthy tourism so far this season.
