Turkey earned USD 18.5 billion from tourism in 2007

Turkey earned USD 18.5 billion from tourism in 2007, while its expenditures were only USD 3.3 billion. According to data from the Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK), Turkey's tourism revenues were USD 16.8 billion and its expenditures were USD 2.7 billion in 2006. This indicates 9.7% rise in tourism revenues, and 18.9% rise in expenditures in 2007 compared to 2006. On the other hand, the number of foreign tourists arriving in Turkey was up 17.6% last year compared to 2006 and reached 27.2 million. Some 23.4 million foreigners preferred Turkey as a tourist destination in 2006, Anadolu news agency said.
